The room was spacious and I felt secure, and they brought water every day even when I left the Do Not Disturb sign up. A lot of hotels in Thailand don’t replenish it when you do that. The shower stall looked a little unclean, so I’d wear flip-flops in there to protect your feet from plantar warts or athlete’s foot. I enjoyed staying at the Howard Square Hotel, but the location is the reason I wouldn’t return. It’s far from the city centre, and getting out for food meant taking a taxi or Grab each day. That ran around 150-200 bhat each way and added up quickly. There weren’t any good restaurants around, so you really have to go into town.

I’d confidently recommended this hotel to a close friend, and his stay left me embarrassed. He said he couldn’t sleep because there were no blackout curtains. The common areas also seemed poorly maintained, with hallways and lifts often extremely crowded and hard to get through. Other guests showed little consideration, and management didn’t address it. He also noticed rooms apparently being used for far more people than the usual bed setup would allow, with sleeping mats spread across the floors. There was a constant flow of people, which took away the quiet and privacy you’d expect from a hotel. The place may have changed its clientele or policies since the online photos were taken. If you’re a tourist hoping for a peaceful base in Bangkok, be aware this might not suit you. The atmosphere seemed better suited to large budget groups than solo travelers or couples.

This is a very basic place, but the bed, bathroom, and other essentials worked well enough for a simple night’s stay. It’s affordable, though quite far from the city, which isn’t convenient. Watch out for another nearby hotel with almost the same name. We went to the wrong one first, even though the right one was just a five-minute walk away. Nothing really stood out, so I didn’t take photos.

Pretty average overall. My sheets had holes, mosquitoes filled the room, and the towel was covered in ants. I’m not exaggerating. The staff were friendly, and there were two old mattresses left in the hallway for the whole trip. There’s a really delicious vegetarian restaurant downstairs.
