Groove At Siam

The rooms were cramped enough to feel hard to breathe in, and I found my belongings moved after the room had been cleaned. The supposedly clean towels had brown stains, and the staff were awful; they couldn't speak even three words of English. There was also a mosque next to the hotel, and Arabic prayers could be heard at full volume now and then. I've never had such a bad hotel experience in Bangkok. Don't book, it'll ruin your holiday.

The small, cozy room suited me as a solo traveler, and I liked its Japanese-style decor and clean interior. I felt safer knowing I could see the whole room when I opened my eyes. The staff were friendly, and there's a dining facility at the front, with a 711 a short walk away. For snacks, though, it's better to pick them up elsewhere before taking the bike back at night, since the distance is too short to make a bike ride worthwhile. The entry road is dark, uneven, and has lots of blind spots, so I wouldn't recommend walking it alone at night as a woman, even though it's short. Better to take a Grab bike directly to the door. The room also isn't suitable if you have lots of luggage or need space to spread out.

The rooms are much smaller than the photos suggest, and the so-called balcony is blocked by a wall, so it’s not really usable as a balcony. The staff were extremely rude and unhelpful, and seemed to pretend they couldn’t speak English to avoid simple requests. For a single night, if you don’t mind the way you’re treated, it may do. At the same price, though, there are much better places.

A clean, reasonably priced option for budget travellers. There’s free drinking water in the lobby, which is handy, and the hotel is close to the BTS and right beside a mosque. A nice place to stay.
