Our private room had already been given away when we arrived, even though we'd paid in advance. We were offered a larger room, but had to pay extra to keep our privacy. The booking site didn't state the additional hidden charges that appeared when I paid by credit card. During the day they also shut off the power, saying it was to save the planet. Cleanliness was passable, though nothing worth praising, and the room described as a 'privacy room' had no door lock. Hostel staff would come in without knocking. It was a very unpleasant stay, especially after the great hospitality I've had at similar hostels and budget places.

The Street hostel is quaint and inexpensive, but I wouldn't call it the best choice for a stay near Khao San Rd. Sound carries in from the busy street, and several people, me included, woke up to loud outside noise. Cleanliness was inconsistent too, particularly in the washrooms.

Being near Khao San Road was a plus, and far enough away that I could sleep quietly. The beds were comfortable, the showers warm, and breakfast was included. The staff were helpful about arranging taxis and day trips.

We stayed at Street hostel for three nights, sharing a dorm with other guests. Each dorm has 12 beds. The stay was good overall, though breakfast could have been a bit better.

There’s a nice social spot with beanbags, though the atmosphere itself wasn't that great. Khao San Road is conveniently close, and taxis and buses to other parts of Bangkok are right outside.
