Popcorn House Ratchada

It's a quiet, nice place in a pleasant neighborhood where you'll get a feel for local life. I've stayed a few times. There were some minor issues, but they were always sorted out, and I was happy in the end.

I stayed here twice, in different months, and both times the place had mold on the walls. I’m allergic to mold, so that was a real problem. The air conditioner also started leaking in the middle of the night. The staff were helpful and nice, but the mold is still there.

The room was clean and not bad overall. The corridor looked awful, though, and the bathroom had a really bad smell. The room itself could be improved pretty easily.

The location worked out well for Songkran. Jodd Fair and The Street were walkable, and the MRT was nearby. There’s a shortcut from the overhead bridge through an office car park to a small road, but it closes at midnight, so after that you have to follow the main road. I booked a double room through TripDotCom. My room was on the first floor and looked clean. It had regular Thai TV channels, but the air conditioning controls didn’t let me change the temperature. The bed was hard and squeaky, and two pillows were flat. The MCCB kept tripping, which meant I couldn’t use the power points or water heater without it cutting out. It wasn’t on a timer. Sound carried straight into the room, too. Outside the door was a table where anyone could hang out, and I could hear drunk guests and loud conversations. It’s cheap, so it might suit you if you don’t mind putting up with that stuff.
