Sukhothai Residence Ruamrudee

I’m on my last night now, and I won’t be coming back. The sewage smell was awful in both rooms, and that alone is enough for me. The first room had a strong, musty, rancid smell. I didn’t see much apart from what looked like water damage near the mystery door on the ceiling. I reported it on the second night and asked to move to a kitchen suite. Staff said the smell came from under the building, which I don’t believe. They charged me 1200 baht for the upgrade, then locked one of the rooms in the suite so I couldn’t use what I’d paid for. The bathroom ceiling there had even more water damage. The smell went away at first, then came back after a night, this time from the kitchen sink. Blocking it with a hand towel seemed to help, but the sewage stench was still terrible. There were black drain flies in both bathrooms I used and in the kitchen. The hotel needs to clean its drains and sewage pipes. I was on the 7th floor both times. There were other problems too. Neither room had a safe, and when I asked reception and security, I was told, “don’t worry I’m watching,” which didn’t reassure me. I don’t trust hotel staff with valuables, especially inquisitive maid service. Several times I came back and found nobody at reception or security, and anyone could use the elevator because it had no key lock or other mechanism. The first room also had a mystery door, with people making noise on the other side very regularly. With no safe, I didn’t feel comfortable leaving my things there. Keep that in mind if you’re thinking of bringing someone back whom you don’t know well. I kept the do not disturb sign on the door the whole time in both rooms, but the maids still knocked to clean. After I ordered delivery, staff wouldn’t let the driver come up, saying it was policy, even though people could walk in off the street most of the time. I asked reception to bring up a couple more bottles of water and they never came, so I had to find the maid staff myself. They kindly gave me three bottles. The place was clean, though I noticed odd musty, smoky, and other unexpected smells around the hotel. The location is great, close to Bangkok’s nightlife, and the 24/7 staff were friendly and professional. WiFi worked perfectly and was fast, with an actual DSL router in each room. There was no light switch beside the bed or bedside lamp, just the router’s glow, so I had to get up and walk to the main door to turn the lights on or off. I’d booked six nights and had only finished the first when I first wrote this, already disappointed by lots of little issues for the price. The first five nights didn’t look promising. The smell in both rooms was the worst part.

We were a family of 12 and 8, stayed four nights, and had different rooms. The rooms felt dated and run down and needed work. Some had a strange sewage-like smell, and my son was bitten by bed bugs. The staff weren’t friendly or helpful, and I think they knew very little English. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The rooms are basic but clean and work for a comfortable night’s stay. I like how easy it is to get around from this location in Bangkok. Parking is limited, but since many guests don’t use it, there’s usually a space. Highly recommend the hotel.

I keep booking here for work trips to Bangkok because it’s close to a shopping mall and the BTS station. The room is a good size and clean, and the staff are welcoming.
