The Moonnight Hostel

There’s free coffee and snacks in the little lobby, and my friend was able to sit there and get some computer work done, which was handy. The hotel feels fairly modern and has AC, and it’s an easy walk to Khao San Road and other places. Our room was very small, though the shower over the toilet worked fine for us. A few practical things: there’s no elevator, so we carried our bags upstairs, and rooms aren’t cleaned unless you’re staying a week or longer. The desk only gave me one of the two keys at check-in. There’s one for your room and another for the hotel’s front door, so make sure you get both when you leave the 500 baht key deposit. They also have lots of signs about charges for broken items, which made me think they may have had problems with guests before. On the first night, noise from staff and possibly a guest woke us at 3am.

We chose Moon Night Hotel for a one-night stop because it’s so close to the Giant Ibis bus terminal, where we caught the bus to Siem Reap. The room was small but still felt spacious, with a really comfortable bed and pillows, and the aircon worked great. Everything was very clean. There’s no elevator, but they have a locked room downstairs for larger bags. The hotel lady was friendly and helpful, and let us store our huge suitcases for six days while we were away. That was a relief, since they wouldn’t have fit on the tuk tuks in Siem Reap. The coffee and snacks table is available every day and included in the price. Great value.

On New Year’s, they cancelled my room at 1am on the day of the booking, saying some issues had “occurred.” The room then became available again at a much higher price than what we had paid. They haven’t made any effort to contact me, and they’re charging me a 50% cancellation fee even though this was their fault. Since it was New Year’s, the only place we could find was a five-hour walk away. This hotel is horrid.

We were there for a week, and the hosts were really welcoming. The room and facilities matched what we’d seen when booking, and the hotel felt quiet and well secured. The lobby seating area was a nice place to relax. They also provided a free breakfast of coffee, a banana, and cakes, which we enjoyed.
