The Peninsula Bangkok

Breakfast was one of the highlights, despite my initial hesitation about the price. There was an amazing range of fresh food, and sitting on the river terrace watching boats move along the Chao Phraya made the meal feel special. The rooms are spotless, luxurious and very comfortable, though they’re beginning to look a little dated beside newer luxury hotels. That didn’t take much away from the stay. The staff made the strongest impression on me. Their attention felt warm and intuitive from the moment I arrived, never scripted or forced. The Peninsula Bangkok is easily among my top five hotel stays anywhere. I’d gladly return and recommend it.

We appreciated how quiet and relaxing the hotel felt, even in Bangkok. Our room was spacious, well cared for, and looked out over the river, which made both mornings and evenings especially nice. The pool and spa were great places to unwind after being out, and service stayed warm, professional and attentive over our three nights. Breakfast was good quality with plenty of choice, though it wasn’t as extravagant as at some newer luxury hotels. The style here is classic and timeless rather than modern or trendy, which may come down to personal taste. For comfort, elegance, river views and outstanding service, The Peninsula Bangkok is easy to understand as a favorite.

The elevator waits were the worst part of our stay. We waited at least five minutes each time, and once it was fifteen, so we took the stairs. For a hotel charging five-star prices, that made getting around frustrating. I understand it may be a design issue, but as a customer that doesn’t help. At Mandarin, Ritz Carlton and Waldorf, we never waited more than two minutes. With so many good options in Bangkok, I’m not sure we’ll return. We were last here 15 years ago, and it feels like nothing has changed. The good parts are still fantastic: service, location, pool and restaurants. We also took the sunset cruise and had an amazing time, highly recommended. There are very few places to charge devices, and having no charging ports beside the bed isn’t acceptable in 2026. Phones, laptops, iPads and clocks all need somewhere to plug in.

The offer to stay three nights and pay for two sounded appealing, but breakfast wasn’t included, and that wasn’t made clear when we booked. A regular booking without the promotion includes breakfast. For us, three days of breakfast cost about the same as the third night, so there was essentially no saving compared with booking normally. Finding this out at check-in after a long trip was irritating. We were still very happy with the stay. The hotel felt welcoming and relaxing, the staff throughout were friendly and professional, and housekeeping did a great job. The rooms are somewhat dated, and we would have liked someone to show us around. We only discovered the provided charging cables on our last day. The offer’s terms could be communicated more clearly, though we enjoyed the stay very much.
