The direct access to the sea was the one bright spot, but the stay was disappointing. Our room was old and in poor shape, and neither of the two TVs worked. When we arrived at 4 PM, only a housekeeper was at the front desk. She said just one room was ready to choose from, even though the others weren't ready yet. The ground floor had heaps of laundry and empty water bottles left lying around. We weren't given the Wi-Fi password, told where breakfast would be, or given a number to call at night. Not a pleasant experience.

There were no other guests, and the place felt quiet, but also older and more rundown than the photos. On arrival, only a security guard was there. There was no reception or lobby, and he handed over the key without checking our booking. He couldn't answer when I asked about breakfast. The room had a musty smell I can't describe, and the number in the Agoda app was switched off when I called. I'm really dissatisfied with this place!!!!

The dogs were friendly, and we could get a Thai massage with a view of the sea. It felt like having a private beach, too. The modern buildings sit right by the beach, with three or four rooms in each house, which worked really nicely for time with family or an office outing.

The best part was the floor-to-ceiling windows along two walls, plus a good bed and strong A/C. The room was clean, though a bit poorly kept, and the apartment is no more than 100 meters from the beach. There isn't a pool, but Hat Rim stays quiet, with no farang around even over a big four-day Thai weekend. I'd come back to this beach and stay at Baan Sea Talay if I couldn't get a room at the Beach Garden Hotel next door. Tortuga, the beach restaurant 100 meters north of Baan Sea Talay's beach entrance, is worth a try, but stay off the farang menu!
