Anta Residence Self-service Apartment

The cramped property was dirty and smelled bad when we arrived. There were hairs on the table, dust everywhere, marks on the walls, and an old, worn sofa. The bedroom mattress was springy and very uncomfortable. My wife and I both woke with bed bug bites, and we have evidence of the bites and the hairs. I had to call the host because they’d forgotten to email the check-in instructions, which made a poor first impression. The host didn’t reply after I said I’d dispute the charge, and also hasn’t responded to Booking.com, which emailed them two months ago. The host’s response to us was not great. We were refunded only for the nights we didn’t stay, not the full amount. Reviews there also mention bugs and cleaning problems. Don’t book if you want to avoid those issues.

The listing photos made the room look modern, clean, and inviting, but when I checked in it was clearly very old and dated. The pictures seemed to be marketing shots from years ago, and even the window view didn’t match the listing. Surfaces, walls, and furniture were dirty, worn, and in poor condition. It smelled old and mouldy, the bathroom smelled really bad, and the kitchen units were broken and needed repairs. Some units in the building may be better kept, but be careful when booking. The Astra Sky River is a much better option at a similar price.

This was the worst room I’ve ever had. There was hair in the bed, hair and dirt in the washing machine, sticky juice on the floor, food remains in the fridge, and dust everywhere. The bathroom smelled worse than vomit, and other tenants agreed with our assessment. We asked for a proper clean, but the cleaners didn’t use water, they just dusted hair off the bed. I doubt the sheets had even been changed after the previous guests. That’s how they clean when someone is watching. Customer service showed little understanding, and it felt like this was normal for them. We got a refund only for the nights we didn’t stay, not for all the nights, but at least we got the bare minimum back. It was the most shocking room I’ve ever booked, and the first five-star place I’d visited, haha. I usually stay in hostels, so my standards aren’t very high. Definitely the first place on my “100%-DONT-GO-LIST”.

The rooftop pool and gym were nice places to unwind, and it was a good place to stay in Chiang Mai. My only issue was the kitchen gear. It was old and partly broken, so making a snack or breakfast wasn't always possible. For this price, the equipment should be usable.
