Baan Heart Thai - Hostel

I booked for two days and ended up staying more than a week, mainly because the staff were so lovely. The woman at reception was sweet, kind, and welcoming. The hostel has a backyard garden, a nice balcony in the common area where I could work, and a cute cat. It’s a bit far from the sights and isn’t a social hostel for a backpacker vibe. That suited me fine, since that wasn’t what I was looking for.

I booked for a month, and the woman on the morning shift was beyond amazing, extremely kind and helpful. The cleaning staff are friendly too. Dorm beds are comfortable, prices are affordable compared to others in the area, and there’s locker space by your assigned bed. Breakfast is included: tea or coffee with juice, two slices of toast with butter and jam, and either two fried eggs or fruit salad. The friendly cat seals the deal. I’ll stay here again next time I’m in Chiang Mai.

I really enjoyed staying at @Baanheartthai. The room was spacious, very clean, and comfortable. It’s within walking distance of tourist spots, 7 Eleven, and the Sunday Market. Wi-Fi and breakfast are included, and there’s a water dispenser and shared fridge. The bathroom is clean, spacious, and comfortable, and there’s a hairdryer. The backyard has a garden and swing, and there’s also a workspace and library.

There was a serious bed bug problem in the female dorm. I booked four nights but left after one. I found a large bed bug on the ceiling over my bed and blood on my sheet, then spotted other bugs on someone else’s bed within two minutes. All six other guests I asked knew the room was full of bed bugs. One couldn’t even remember how many she’d killed. They were staying unwillingly because the festival made it hard to find another place. Two women beside me had many bites on their backs, arms, and legs and were packing to leave. I packed immediately and checked out too. The staff members were kind, but that doesn’t make it okay to sleep with bed bugs. At check-in they mentioned mosquitoes and flies brought in by guests and said they sprayed daily, but didn’t mention bed bugs. Spray doesn’t kill bed bugs. They need deep cleaning and professionals to deal with the problem. I spent around 5000bht finding places for the next three nights, getting hot wash services to avoid bringing bugs or eggs home, and taking taxis to a new hostel or hotel every day. It was exhausting and stressful, and I wouldn’t have had to spend that much if the hostel had been fine. Please avoid booking here.
