Chiang Mai Marriott Hotel

We had a great three-night stay while visiting Chiang Mai. The breakfast buffet had a huge range of choices, and the daily 8-10 pm happy hour was a good deal. The wine was delicious. Our room was spacious and nicely equipped, with a comfortable bed and a large bathroom with useful storage. The AC worked well, which matters in Thailand. The hotel is also well placed for the night markets and old town.

Being so close to the Night Market made it easy to spend evenings trying street food and browsing local crafts. I was in Chiang Mai for a yoga retreat, and the hotel was a calm, comfortable place to come back to after the sessions. I also kept up my routine at the gym and pool, and one evening walked over to the nearby Muay Thai boxing ring to watch a match. That was an exciting experience I'll remember. My room was spotless and comfortable, with lovely city views. The staff were welcoming from the start, attentive and professional without overdoing it. Breakfast had plenty of fresh, tasty Western and Thai choices. The Marriott Chiang Mai gave me a good mix of comfort, convenience and local experiences, and I'd stay again.

The food at the M-Club and Level 1 restaurant was delicious, and we enjoyed trying the hotel's different bars. They all had a lovely atmosphere, and the staff were friendly. Khun Nim and Khun KT at the M-Club gave excellent service, and Khun Cartoon brought us lovely treats. They were the stars of our stay. My husband, our one-year-old and I spent a week here as M-Club guests. Chiang Mai Marriott is lovely, with a great location and ambience, and we'd return. Still, the care and attention felt a little lower than during our recent Club stay at Mae Ping InterContinental. Cleanliness also fell short of the Marriott standard we're used to, perhaps because it was the busy Christmas and New Year season. Traveling with a baby, we wished the hotel were more kid-friendly. Baby utensils weren't always available at the M-Club, and there was no baby toiletries kit. The metal cot felt less suitable and potentially unsafe for an active baby; a foldable or fabric-style cot might be more comfortable and safer.

The concierge arranged a taxi for us to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep and a nearby waterfall. Our driver was friendly and gave us plenty of time at both stops. Old Chiang Mai was about a 30-minute walk away, though we usually took a tuk tuk waiting outside for around 100 baht. We spent three nights here on our honeymoon, and it was a highlight of the trip. The staff made us feel welcome from arrival, and our spacious, comfortable room had folded towel animals, flower petals and balloons. The M lounge happy-hour spread included khao soi, larb, matcha cheesecake and pork sliders. Breakfast in the main dining area was great too, with everything from eggs Benedict and filled cronuts to Chinese dim sum. We love Chiang Mai food, but could easily have filled up at the hotel. It was one of our most enjoyable hotel stays, and we're grateful to the staff for making the honeymoon memorable.
