Chiang Mai House for Dreamer

I’ve visited Chiang Mai five times, and stayed at The Dreamer on four of those trips. After a seven-year gap, I went back to the city but didn’t find it charming, and I hadn’t stayed at The Dreamer then. Returning there now made me understand what had been drawing me back all along. It wasn’t really Chiang Mai, it was The Dreamer.

The owner made me feel welcome right away, and I fell in love with her. She was such an amazing host. Breakfast was free each morning, with tea and coffee, and laundry took only a couple of hours. I felt at home and was sad to leave. It’s a little out of town, but getting a Grab into town is easy and the distance is worth it. My room was nice, clean, and comfortable, with a bedside jug of water to refill a glass. The bathroom was spotless, and the shower had hot water and amazing pressure. Seriously the best homestay I’ve stayed at, I couldn’t recommend it more.

If you need a place to relax and get your bearings, this is it. It’s outside central Chiang Mai, but getting into town by scooter or Grab is easy, around 15 minutes or less. Amarin has a gentle, spiritual lightness that settles an often anxious traveler. She’s kind, soft-spoken, easygoing, and not at all intrusive, and she makes you feel at home, almost like a mom. As the other reviews say, breakfast is delicious, with tea and coffee too. We had a lovely moment sharing a ripe papaya from her garden. Thank you, Amarin 🧡 Sometimes fate does bring you where you need to be.

Amarin is a wonderful host, and the included breakfast is very good. She’ll also do your sweaty laundry for free. The house is exceptionally clean, pleasant, and great value. It’s on a quiet street, about a seven minute walk from 7-11, Tesco, and the local market, where you can get tasty 30 THB meals day or night. The location suits me well unless you want to bar hop: the best things to do are outside town, and downtown traffic by scooter, Grab, or taxi is both costly and aggravating. If you’re traveling alone and willing to open up to Amarin, you won’t be bored. I’ve stayed in homestays for much of my life, and this one is easily my favorite.
