Hi Chiangmai Hotel

We were there for 13 nights in a spacious, cozy Deluxe Double Room that really felt like home. The bed is huge, there's a bathtub, and it stayed surprisingly quiet the whole time. The location is excellent too, right by Khao Soi Mae Sai and Huen Muan Jai, both Michelin-listed, with Ombra Cafe just across the road. One Nimman and even the Old Town are walkable. Great value for money, and we loved having a laundry corner with a washer, dryer, detergent, and coins available at the counter, plus a microwave in the dining area. We'd happily stay again!

The checkout experience summed up our stay. We asked for a 12:30 checkout after returning from a morning meeting at 11:45, but the front desk would allow only 15 extra minutes because there were just two maids. That felt awkward and unwelcoming. At check-in, we’d also been given complicated cleaning rules: put the sign out before noon, though rooms were cleaned only before 3. It seemed the hotel was arranging things around its staffing and convenience instead of guests. The bathroom had a sign threatening a 3,000 baht fine for flushing toilet paper, which felt unnecessary and unpleasant. And despite the hallway quiet policy, we were woken each morning by guests chatting loudly. The door was so thin that every sound came through. I’d avoid this hotel.

The bed was the one good part of our stay at Hi Chiangmai. Unlike many local hotels, the mattress was comfortable, and we slept well until loud guests woke us at 7:45 am through the very thin walls. The staff’s indifference made the place feel far from hospitable. Nobody greeted us coming or going, and there were no smiles. When we asked to check out at 12:30, they allowed only 12:15 because that was when the maid was ready to clean. It could have been roughly a three-star stay otherwise. Avoid this hotel aggressively.

A little gem in a great spot. It’s an easy walk to the old city centre, and Michelin restaurants are only about two minutes away. The staff were wonderfully friendly and helpful, the room was comfortable and well appointed, and breakfast had a nice spread. Highly recommended.
