The location and the staff were the best parts of staying at the Lavana. It’s right by Wat Phra Singh in the old city, with restaurants, shops, bars, massage places, and temples all an easy walk away. The Sunday Night Market is right outside the door on Sunday evenings. There’s also a 7-11 nearby for snacks and essentials. Staff at the desk were consistently friendly, courteous, and helpful from check-in through checkout. Housekeeping was helpful and efficient as well. The hotel was clean, the AC worked well, water was provided daily, and there were robes in the room. The elevator was quick, with no waiting. There’s a small pool and restaurant attached. Keep in mind there aren’t outlets beside the bed, so plan your charging. My big problem was the shower. The pressure kept changing, and sometimes there was no warm water. After walking around Chiang Mai every day, I really wanted a reliable hot shower, and this was a serious downside for me. The TV selection was poor too. There were no foreign channels apart from Chinese ones, and I couldn’t cast YouTube or Amazon Prime. I’m not there to watch TV all day, but I do like to catch the news sometimes, especially at a four-star hotel at these prices. The shower issue was ultimately a deal breaker for me, so I wouldn’t stay at the Lavana again with so many choices in Chiang Mai.

We found a good deal after comparing prices. My wife booked six nights through Booking.com for 15,000 NTD without breakfast, but Booking.com offered me 9,000 NTD with breakfast for the same dates. We cancelled and booked again, so it’s worth checking around. Taxis or Bolt to the airport cost about half as much as pre-booked cars, around 160/180 Baht, and the ride takes 10-15 minutes. The hotel is in a fantastic spot, close to the main Old Town sights and places like Boots, 7-11, and a good massage place. Try to be there on a Sunday if you want the night market right outside. It’s a smallish, clean hotel with reception set back from the road, a pool, and a restaurant/bar at the front. We had breakfast there; the bar wasn’t noisy when we visited, though it might get louder when busy. Our twin room on the third floor was medium-sized, with a small sofa, desk, and fridge. The water was completely chilled, the room was comfortable, hot water worked well, and housekeeping was good. WiFi was stable, but the TV had limited channels and signal problems. Breakfast was freshly made and generous. There were six choices while we were there, plus toast, tea, and fruit. I imagine it may be a buffet when there are more guests. Service was good and efficient, especially at the restaurant. Staff in the hotel and restaurant don’t speak much English, but Google Translate worked fine. We’ll stay here again in Chiang Mai if we find a good price.

We had a comfortable bed and a nice window seat, plus plenty of wardrobe space and complimentary water in the fridge. I’d seen comments about missing power sockets, but we found them under the bedside cabinet shelf. They’re easy to overlook. The room’s bathroom sliding door has decoration that needs attention, as it looks like there was a water leak before. The hotel is in a great location, and the Sunday night market fills the street outside. It’s enormous. Staff stored our bags when we arrived before check-in and again after checkout. Breakfast was okay, though at 7am the burners under the food weren’t lit, so it was warm rather than hot.

The staff really stood out, and the restaurant introduced me to butterfly tea flower tea, which was delicious. The location was perfect, and the rooms felt upscale, comfortable, and peaceful. I loved this hotel.

We spent three nights at Lavana hotel, and the staff were consistently helpful. The rooms were comfortable, and the hotel is right in the city center. Breakfast could be a little better, in my opinion, but everything else went fine.
