Loyy Hotel - Hostel

The facilities and everything else were great, and they sorted things out easily once I stepped in. My fiancée had tried to check in, but the woman at reception just stared blankly and ignored her, even though my fiancée speaks Thai. I had to come over and handle it myself.

I was only there for one night because my flight came in quite late, and I didn’t expect much, but still felt disappointed. My boyfriend had booked the wrong room type. I emailed the hotel two weeks before check-in, but got no answer. I thought they’d seen the message and had enough time to make a note, but nothing was changed and we still got the wrong room. When we arrived, there were no receptionists at the desk. They were all out eating.

This is my go-to whenever I come to Chiang Mai, and easily my favorite hotel there. The staff are very helpful, breakfast and coffee are free, and the bathrooms are super clean.

The room was clean, but the bathroom needed a deep clean, and there was no hair on the floor. Nights were noisy too. I booked because payment at the hotel was offered, but when I arrived I was told cash wasn’t accepted. They said that was on the booking, though it turned out I had to look at a question to find out whether they took cash. Then, while I was in my room, I heard someone trying to get in. I opened the door to find a girl with a key for that room, which thankfully didn’t work. They seem clueless. Breakfast was a joke: instant coffee, weird-looking butter, no fruit, and not worth getting out of bed for. They made guests wash their own dishes, which I don’t mind, but two staff members watched me do it, so I was paying for the privilege of being watched while working.
