Friendly staff and a nice security guard at the gate, plus a good location in the Old City for exploring Chiang Mai. But the hotel wasn't quite what the online listing led us to expect. We'd booked a twin room with a pool view and balcony. From the room, the view was mostly a car park, and we could only see about 5% of the pool. The balcony wasn't even big enough for chairs, which were kept inside the room. An aircon unit took up half the space, and the enclosed balcony was barely usable apart from hanging towels. It was unlikely to get any sun. None of these things were huge on their own, but the advertised features should be represented fairly. The pool stayed in the shade all day, so the water was cold. There was no seating around it except a few plastic chairs, and a couple were broken. The hotel was noisy from the nearby main roads, and we could hear everything through the walls, even our neighbours going for a wee. If you're after a relaxing stay, this probably isn't the place. The beds were rock hard, like many in Thailand, but these were the worst. I reckon the floor would've been comfier. This was also the only hotel on our month-long Thailand trip that didn't give us fresh water bottles. Nothing major, but it would've been nice. It did the job, but wasn't worth the money.

We hadn't planned to stay here, but it turned into a really pleasant surprise. Our first hotel messed up the reservation, so we picked the nearest place with availability, MD Boutique. The main road location was convenient. There aren't many local places to eat nearby, but there's a 7-11 right across the road, and enough local food just beyond the gates in the walls to keep you satisfied. The staff were helpful and printed some things for us free of charge. The room was the highlight: it was spacious and spotlessly clean, with a queen-sized bed, dresser, bathtub, long table, sala desk, and an amazing view. We paid THB3,200 for two nights in peak December.

The pool is on the small side, with only a few loungers, and there’s just one bedside outlet tucked at the edge. The room walls are thin, so loud neighbors carry, and the beds roll around easily. In the bathroom I wished for somewhere to hang things and a bit more counter space. Still, the room was roomy, with mirrors both in and outside the bathroom, and the shower stayed hot. The AC worked well, the staff were lovely, and Kai at reception was great. I spent a pleasant week here. A good stay if you’re not too fussy.

The location is excellent, but hot water kept failing throughout my five-night stay. The staff were helpful and got it working again each time, only for the problem to return the next day. It seemed like a boiler or electrical issue, and I left without anyone apologizing. The small balcony was also occupied by the AC unit, leaving no space to sit and enjoy the pool view.

The elevator was a real help with all our luggage, and the rooms had plenty of space for it, plus a big bathroom. They cleaned daily and would bring extra water if we asked. We also found the staff helpful. When we thought we’d lost our key, I used Google translate to bridge the communication gap. I think some people mistake limited English for unfriendliness. This place was fantastic for the price and in a great location. Chiang Mai itself is such a relaxing city that you probably won’t spend much time in your room. The hotel isn’t going to be the fanciest or most modern at this price. Pay less and you’ll likely get a smaller room or bathroom, while paying more gets you more. I was surprised by some of the negative reviews, and I’d happily stay here again.
