MeU2 And iSmile Hostel

The hosts were so friendly and smiley, and treated me kindly whenever we crossed paths. I stayed six nights across the two hostels next door to each other, five at i-smile and one at u2, and I thought the quality was the same in both. For the price, it's really good value. The beds are big and comfy, the fans and AC work, and the bathrooms are clean with warm water. There's space to hang out on the rooftop or the lobby/1st floor, plus free hot/water, biscuits, and fruit. Laundry costs 40 baht, including use of the rooftop machine and detergent powder. You can hang clothes up there to dry, and on a sunny day mine were dry by sunset. It feels calm and relaxing, and is one of the nicest hostels in chiang mai. The quality and friendly hosts make it easy to recommend. The only thing I'd add is hand soap dispensers by the sinks.

I looked around at the other hostels, and this one stood out for the price and quality. The owner is lovely and speaks English really well. Amazing place, totally recommend it!

The family who run this hostel are kind and accommodating, and the staff are attentive too. The rooms are comfortable and clean, with a competitive price and location. I'll definitely come back next time I'm here.

The location is really good, but I strongly suggest staying somewhere else. The bedroom equipment doesn't work: the air-con was broken, and the fans made a lot of noise. Worse, the owner was a rude, aggressive old man who didn't know how to treat people. He suddenly got furious, yelled in my face, and banged his hand on the table, making a scene. It was scary and absurd. The other one-star Google comments give you an idea. It's expensive for what you get, and there are lots of other options on the same street.
