Patra Phrasing Boutique Hotel

Most of the Old City sights are walkable from this small hotel, and it's not far from Chiang Mai's attractions. The rooms are basic but clean. Our room had no wardrobe, and to have it made up you need to leave a note outside your door. WiFi was fast, and the staff were polite and helpful.

We stayed three nights in Chiang Mai, my partner and I, and found the staff helpful and always smiling. The room was cozy but had the comforts we needed, with a really comfortable bed and pillows. The location made it easy to walk to all the sights. We skipped breakfast because there were several options nearby.

The bed was comfortable, the WiFi worked fine in room 304, and the elevator had automatic doors. Those were the good parts. For me, “boutique” has come to mean uncomfortable. The room was tiny, with the bed taking up most of it. There was nowhere to open my large bag, though two little stools or tables at the foot of the bed meant I could get into it without crawling on the floor. Storage was just an open rack with four hangers, right above the small fridge. The kettle, coffee, and tea were on top of it, so clothes hanging there ended up resting on the drink items. The shower was very strange: from 6am to 11pm, the water kept switching between scalding hot and freezing cold. The handheld shower head only had one wall position, and water sprayed outside the shower from there. The sink had no stopper, just an open drain hole. The AC setting didn't match the actual room temperature. I set it to 26° and still froze because it blew straight onto the bed. If I turned it off, the room became sweltering in minutes. The floor was also very dirty. I always take my street shoes off indoors, and walking barefoot across this floor turned my feet black, much worse than after a whole day walking around Chiang Mai in sandals.

The staff were very helpful, and there was a nice atmosphere in this modern hotel and its rooms. It's tucked down a little alley in the old part of town and was very quiet. The lobby has a good free coffee machine. Breakfast is basic, but has all you need.
