Thapae Backpackers Hostel

We found the staff here among the friendliest and funniest we met in Tailand, and they were ready to help with anything. The rooms were very good, with big, comfortable beds. Breakfast and the other food were good too. I recommend it 100%.

The place itself was okay, but we had a rough time sleeping because of the other people in our dorm. They stomped in and out, left the door open until 6 AM, and partied all night in the area right beside the dorm instead of going to a bar. None of my friends or I got decent sleep. I wish staff would set quiet hours after a certain time, like places that don’t present themselves as party hostels usually do.

I’m from Australia and stayed four nights. The dorms have air conditioning at night, so you can sleep well despite the heat. The Thai women on staff are really friendly, and the restaurant serves tasty Thai food at a good price. They’ll also help you find things around Chiang Mai or arrange tours. I highly recommend it.

BED BUGS. I’ve stayed here three times and usually love the place and the staff, but on this last visit my bed was full of bed bugs. A week after leaving, these pests are still haunting me. Looking at the reviews, it seems this may be an ongoing hostel problem. I think Thae Pae Backpackers should close temporarily to deal with it. Getting bed bugs as a traveller is awful, and Thae Pae Backpackers needs to do everything it can to stop the problem spreading.
