The Mellow Pillow at Chiang Mai Gate

We checked in, then checked out five minutes later. The online photos must have been of another hotel: the lobby and outside didn't look like the pictures. We were given room #4 at the front, and it had no windows. It looked like a very outdated motel 6. I wish I'd taken some photos, but I didn't. We immediately found somewhere else and stayed at the Lanna Oriental. My husband and I were celebrating our 30th Anniversary, and there was no way we would have stayed here. Our reservation was for Sept 28/Oct 1, 2024. DO NOT BOOK HERE.

The place was cozy and clean, with a big garden and a nice view. It's right near the south gate, check-in and check-out were easy, and the hotel has two floors with no elevator. Wifi was ok and the amenities were all there. Our room's windows looked out onto the garden. The downside was poor soundproofing, a cold bathroom, and weak water.

This little hotel has been renovated from an old house into a modern, welcoming place, and the price was good. It was clean and spacious. There are lockers for your things and a box for late check-in, which made things convenient. No breakfast is served, but there’s plenty of food nearby at all hours, and a cute café is just a short walk away. If you’re driving, parking could be tight since there are only two spaces. I was there during the virus outbreak, though, so parking wasn’t an issue for me.

I really enjoyed the lovely, well-kept garden. The location is handy, with the old town close by and a small, tasty food market only a few minutes away on foot in the evening. My room was bright and very clean, and the women at reception were polite and friendly. Five stars, thanks for everything!
