The Voyager Guesthouse

We couldn’t get to Chiang Mai because flooding trapped us in Hat Yai, so we never got to stay here. Even though they weren’t required to, the guesthouse refunded us. That was a really kind gesture. I hope we make it to Chiang Mai one day and can experience their service in person.

The people were nice and helpful, and the location would be great if the nearby nightclub didn’t blast bass from 11 pm until 5 am. The room literally vibrates, so you won’t sleep. The owners might say the club opening nearby isn’t their fault, but it doesn’t change the noise. The room itself was okay, though paint was peeling across about 30% of the ceiling. Avoid it if you need rest.

I’ve stopped by several times for drinks or food, but haven’t stayed overnight. They’ve had some good beers and other drinks, and I’ve had breakfast there a couple of times too. Service is fast, and the friendly staff always greet you with a smile. There’s parking along the side of the building.

They’d installed a new toilet, air con, and shower mechanism, but basic hygiene still seemed neglected. We were shown two rooms, both looking very dirty, and chose the better of them. It seemed like it might have been an old reception room. There were handprints all over the walls, dust piled on everything, and things on the walls and ceiling that looked like maggots, though they weren’t moving. It’s a cheap place, but basic cleanliness should still be there. The smell was unpleasant too, and I couldn’t tell if it was humidity or general dirt. My partner got an eye infection after the night there, after sleeping and using the provided towel. We stayed two nights, then moved to the hotel opposite, which was the best decision. The place didn’t look like the pictures. Maybe we got the worst leftover rooms because it was booked up, but either way the stay wasn’t good. From other reviews, including on booking.com, I think we may have been unlucky. I hope they see this and fix those rooms or stop putting anyone else in that situation.
