The Yard Hostel Chiang Mai

The location made it easy to explore Old Town on foot, and I felt safe walking alone at night. The hostel has a calm, cozy feel, social but not chaotic or too party-focused. Its common areas are spacious enough to relax by yourself or meet other travelers, and there are free yoga classes, which were a nice touch. The staff were incredibly warm and helpful, making it feel homey. Breakfast was good and decent, and when I mentioned I had to leave very early for an activity, they offered me a takeaway breakfast. There’s also an air-conditioned common/waiting room for early arrivals before check-in. Definitely recommended.

The Yard is in a great spot in Chiang Mai’s old town. I stayed in both a six-person dorm and private rooms, and had a very pleasant experience in both. The communal area is big enough to relax comfortably and has a nice balance: it’s easy to make friends, but easy to have some time alone too. Breakfast was incredible. A lot of people I met kept extending their stays because they loved The Yard so much.

The yard, the communal area, was nicely decorated and well kept, and made it incredibly easy to start chatting with others. The staff were so friendly and helpful, and the hostel is very central in the Old City, making it convenient to walk to most attractions. I really enjoyed my stay and would happily return if I were solo travelling in Chiang Mai again. My twin room with a private bathroom was big, clean, and comfortable. It was separate from the dorm area and the private rooms with shared bathrooms, which gave added privacy. The only downside was the thin walls, since you could hear people talking outside.

The garden was gorgeous to sit in during the day, and the bathrooms were really nice and super clean, always a plus. We fell in love with the hostel and couldn’t bring ourselves to leave after four nights, so we extended for another two. The staff were incredibly friendly, and breakfast was an amazing way to start the day. Their regular yoga classes, run clubs, and day trips were a great way to meet people.
