Chiangrai Lake Hill Resort

The rooms are decent for the price, and it’s a good-sized hotel with a nice pool and a view.

We got here after a long day of driving and found a deserted “resort.” The staff were all by the pool, some sitting beside it and some in it, having a “staff party.” There was nobody at the gate or in reception. Even though we’d booked at the last minute, the place was in a dismal state. A strong smell of bird droppings was everywhere around the grounds. Our booking was nonrefundable, but we decided to cut our losses and drive another 30 minutes back to Chiang Rai. Definitely skip this place!

The room and restaurant have lovely views, and the sounds of the animals and nature are incredible. The people were very friendly and willing to help with whatever we needed. The hotel is still beautiful, though you can see it’s neglected. I liked it a lot, but it felt more like a country hotel than a resort. We got a promotional rate that was very good. Keep in mind that renting a motorcycle costs 300 baht a day and makes it easy to get around whenever you like. Taxis are very expensive, around 500 baht. You can ask for breakfast, but the contracted restaurant doesn’t open until 11 in the morning, which was much too late for us. Everything I ate was really tasty, though the place isn’t very highly rated. The prices were about the same as elsewhere nearby.
