Phungluang Resort

The woman at the counter did help us when we first arrived in town: I called to ask how to reach the hostel, and she came to pick us up and drive us there. But the place is isolated, and if you're traveling in the evening, walking along the road is the only way to get back. We asked her how to reach the floating market the next day, and all she managed to tell us was, “Tomorrow at 7, bus.” We waited at 7 am, but no bus ever came, so we had to walk along the road again. Given the location and room facilities, it also feels rather expensive.

The rooms are simple and relatively clean, with air conditioning and a fan in every room I stayed in. Prices are very good. Staff are friendly, and some rooms have a parking garage; there's also a good parking lot.

There's a restaurant across the street, a supermarket farther along, and an elephant village in the other direction for tourists. The famous floating market is close, though there's not much else to do here. Rooms are big and prices small, but you might find a cockroach in the bathroom. Some mattresses are worn out and broken.

The room itself feels like one star, but the low budget price is why I'd give the stay two stars. Reasonable for one night if you're keeping costs down.
