The beds are great, though the mattresses are a little thin. Rooms have fans, and the bathrooms have hot showers. The location’s handy for malls and for bars and clubs popular with foreigners, depending on what you’re after. The people running the hostel are very friendly and helpful, and they make different sweets for breakfast each morning.

I’ve stayed here twice. On my second visit, Hat Yai had terrible flooding, but the owners helped me and the other guest get through it and cooked us nice food. The cat is cute and friendly too. Amazing hostel, highly recommend.

I’m from Indonesia, and for my first solo trip I picked Hatyai because it’s close to Malaysia. The owner was so friendly and gave me ideas for places to go and look around. Breakfast is free, and I chose the traditional Thai dishes. Nice place for solo travel. Hopefully I’ll get to make a second trip.

The owner was genuinely friendly and helpful, and showed me local night markets where the food is good for the price. You also get a warm hello from a cute, fat cat if you like cats. For a low budget, this hostel gives you a lot: the bathroom, room and mattress were all clean. No complaints at all.

The new location was filthy. I asked the owner to clean the kitchen, but they were on the phone and didn’t seem concerned. The dirty old dishes only made it worse. It is close to markets, banks and restaurants, but that doesn’t matter more than your health. The owner seems unconcerned about guests’ health. Trashy, don’t book.
