Baan Bayan Beachfront Hotel

This was my third time here. The atmosphere is the best part, quiet and peaceful, without anything chaotic or luxurious. All the staff are nice. Breakfast doesn’t have many options, though, so if you’re not planning to get up early, I’d recommend eating somewhere else with more choice.

Lies, lies, lies. We booked a 45 sq meter room with a king-size bed and partial ocean view, but were shown a cramped, shabby room at the back of the hotel with a queen bed. The night clerk said that was what I’d requested. When I showed him my printed reservation, he insisted it was what I had booked. He admitted once that the bed wasn’t the right size only after we saw a large empty room with its door open and a king-size bed inside. Then he went back to saying the beds were the same size. We said that room looked like the one we’d booked, but he shrugged and said it was for someone else the next day and there was nothing he could do. When we challenged the room size, he said we could count the hotel porch as part of it. His attitude was arrogant and rude the whole time. I hate being lied to, especially when someone pretends not to understand you even though they do, using that to take advantage. Agoda, where we booked, fortunately refunded us. A truly horrible experience with truly wretched people.

It’s my third stay here. I like the romantic old colonial-style house and how close it is to the beach, town, and malls for rainy days. This time, though, everything seemed a bit run down: the room furniture, bathroom sink, beach towels, and bedsheets. It also wasn’t clean, with dust on the electrical outlets, a really dirty area under the bed, and toothpaste marks on the mirror. The shower drain wasn’t working properly and the toilet smelled. The staff are nice and always smiling, but they don’t understand much English, so the things I pointed out didn’t get fixed.
