Makan resort

The rooms were spotless and good value for a prime location. You’re only five minutes from the famous bridge, with restaurants, shops, and convenience stores just steps away. Set just off the main road, the no-frills resort is easy to reach by car and taxis are easy to catch. It’s nicely decorated and close to local amenities.

We showed up for our reservation and left unimpressed. Three days earlier, we’d tried to change it because other dates suited our schedule better. The hotel had plenty of availability, but wouldn’t help or give us a straight answer. They kept telling me to contact the third-party provider, even though their email said I should contact the hotel. The manager also never called me back as promised. That’s terrible customer service for a hospitality property, and I wouldn’t recommend it. There’s no pool, so it’s basically simple rooms rather than much of a resort, and the staff weren’t friendly.

I had a really bad stay and was charged twice. I accidentally booked the same dates twice while multitasking a month before check-in. The double booking showed up on Agoda, and when I immediately tried to cancel one, they said to allow 48 hours for the hotel to respond. I called Makan right away. The clerk said she’d tell the manager and call me back, but I never heard back. After 48 hours I called again. Because of the language barrier, we agreed I’d come in person on the check-in date, five days later, to discuss it. Agoda’s screenshots later showed that the hotel hadn’t enabled cancellation. I’d also contacted Agoda a week before check-in to cancel one booking and brought printouts, including Thai translations, of all the screenshots and messages. Agoda said they’d tried to contact the hotel, but Makan hotel didn’t reply. The manager wouldn’t refund me, just saying there was nothing they could do. Can Makan hotel, which uses Agoda, not call or email them? Is there no hotel contact number or email support for Agoda? Either Agoda or the hotel had something set up wrong for accidental double bookings. They both blamed each other, and neither seemed to care about sorting out what I felt was my rightful double booking feedback. I spent days and hours chasing this, then had a big hassle at check-in. It ruined my mood when I was there to meet friends of 15 years whom I hadn’t seen for two years and start a vacation. Instead, I was pissed off by the hotel experience and double charge. I’ll never stay there again or use Agoda again. There was no way to fix my mistake when I made it, 48 hours later, or a week later. It was a really bad experience.

The rooms were amazing, and the service was excellent. It's right in the city center, close to everything. 🙏
