The quieter northern end of Karon Beach suited us, and it was about 5-10 minutes on foot to the sand. The main strip was around a 10-minute walk. We spent a week at The Front Village and had a pleasant stay, though being right by the main road meant enough noise to keep this at four stars. The pool is lovely, with a bar and plenty of loungers, but it also sits by the road and can get noisy. Breakfast was included and adequate, but the choice was a little limited, with some odd “Western” options, like minestrone soup and spaghetti bolognese in the morning.

The location and service were great, but one of the two rooms we booked smelled so bad in the bathroom that we got sick after two days, with headaches and coughing. The concierge came to check, sprayed some perfume, and said nothing more could be done. We insisted on an immediate room change, and started feeling better once we moved. The hotel should inspect rooms before giving them to guests.

The place was well looked after, and breakfast had lots of choice. We never had to wait for a table. The staff were welcoming, friendly, helpful, and spoke good English. It took about 10 minutes to walk to the Main Street, which worked for us since evenings were pretty quiet. The beach was a 5-minute walk, with plenty of sun loungers available, 200 baht for 2 x beds and an umbrella. We stayed at The Front Village for 4 nights.

The price feels fair, and we'd still recommend staying here. The hotel is quite old, but our room and the pool were well maintained and clean. We enjoyed two nights in a pool access room. There were a couple of drawbacks: check-in is promised for 2.00 pm, but our room wasn't ready until 2.40 pm. The person who checked us in didn't seem very welcoming, while the staff member at checkout was friendly and professional. The bathtub water was murky greenish and had a slight smell, though at an acceptable level.
