Mairood Resort

The tropical garden is what makes this place special. We loved wandering among the plants and the animals, including around 12 rescue dogs, cats, and birds, and relaxing on the swing bench overlooking the river. There’s also a small pool with loungers and other spots to sit. The resort sits in a picturesque, lively fishing village, with a good seafood lunch available nearby. Its bungalows and suites are spread across a two-acre property. Our air-conditioned bungalow was spacious and comfortable; the wooden fan-only ones looked a little too rustic for us. We had a good dinner at the resort, with generous portions that suited us as cyclists. Breakfast was a generous bowl of fresh fruit with toast, eggs, and homemade sausage. The owner was kind and lovely to talk with after dinner. This was one of the best stays on our cycling trip through Southeast Asia and a great welcome to Thailand after Cambodia. We’d go out of our way to stay again. Thank you 🙏🙏

The garden is wonderful, with impressive planting and chickens and birds all around. Chin’s eye for interior design and upholstery shows throughout the place. The restaurant serves delicious food, with Chin overseeing it after years of running a restaurant in the US. He and his partner have made this pretty riverside resort feel like a home away from home in the Mai Rud fishing community on Thailand’s Eastern Seaboard.

We borrowed bikes and rode around to see the nearby beach. The owners are genuinely caring and want you to feel comfortable. Breakfast is included and tasty, and you can get dinner there too. It’s a calm jungle setting, with lots of sounds around you. If you look carefully, hornbills may be around in the morning and evening. Definitely recommend!

The manageress speaks English well and is unbelievably helpful. When I asked whether the office had Coke, they didn’t, but she came to my door with a bottle and a glass of ice from the store. I also asked where the coin laundry was, and she washed my clothes and brought them back folded. That’s the best service I’ve had in a month in Thailand. Mairood Resort is in the heart of Ban Mai Rut floating fishing village, and it feels genuinely traditional rather than like a tourist gimmick. Can’t recommend it highly enough. Thank you 👌👌👌👌👌
