Bhumiyama Beach Resort

The beach here has a relaxed punk and hippie feel, with small bars in that style. The garden is full of flowers and trees, and the big, clean swimming pools were the best part for us. There isn't a restaurant or breakfast service at the hotel, but you can call the other hotel for service by ringing the bell at the pool, and get breakfast there too. The beach has a lot of seaweed, though gardeners come each morning to clear it along with fallen leaves. We were satisfied with Bhumiyama. The rooms have nice balconies and are spacious, but the hotel needs renovation and upkeep. At times it feels like an Urbex building. It must have been a great number one hotel on Koh Chang 30 years ago, built with good materials and thoughtful details, and very modern for that time. If you're after a new-looking hotel, you'd be disappointed.

The atmosphere could be memorable, and the resort must have been beautiful once, but the current state didn't match the Agoda photos or reviews. Cleanliness was the biggest problem, and it affects the hotel's image. Our room wasn't clean enough, with yellow stains in the bathtub, and the towels were so poor we couldn't use them. The air conditioning was loud, and the resort lighting was inadequate at night, so bring a flashlight. There was no bellboy, and the receptionist had to do that job, so carry your own bags. Breakfast is served at the neighboring resort in set portions, and the food was nice. If everything were updated, the great vibe could make this a memorable stay. 🙏

The setting is the standout: Bhumiyama Plus has mature, well-kept gardens, great maintained pools, plenty of loungers, and grassy spaces for kids. You can walk straight onto a beautiful beach with clean, lovely-colored water, sunsets, views of tiny nearby islets, and jungle behind it. There are birds, butterflies, monkeys, and local pets around too. Kayaks are available from Nature Beach next door, and paddling to the nearest island takes about twenty minutes. The rocky areas at both ends of Lonely beach have several kinds of fish, so bring goggles. We also liked the local options: Nature Rocks restaurant serves a broad menu of well-presented Thai and Western food, though it's not the cheapest. Mimos bar is a nice spot, and there are other beach bars and massage places. Nature Rocks, next door and under the same owner, provides the comprehensive buffet breakfast included with Bhumiyama. Eggs are cooked to order, and there are fruit, vegetables, Thai dishes, pastries, coffee, juices, yogurts, and toast, with something for everyone. The nearby village has bars and restaurants at the left end of the beach, plus more food choices, shops, an ATM, and a pharmacy up the hill. We recommend Dang Seafood and Nanny's, and the walk up from the main road to Oasis is worth it for good food in a lovely treetop setting. Lonely Beach itself is pretty and not too busy. The rooms are a little dated, but really not bad, and the staff are friendly. They're cleaned thoroughly every day. We thought it was great value for the money and would come back. Just don't expect five-star luxury with everything brand new; choose a newer resort if that's what you're after. We were slightly nervous after reading some reviews, but weren't disappointed and can't understand the negative takes. For our holiday, we couldn't have expected more for the price. It was a perfect, relaxing break for us, and we'd happily return soon. It's a gem for families, couples, or anyone wanting a warm, peaceful break from the madness of the world. Lonely Beach, Bhumiyama Plus, Koh Chang, Bangkok, Thailand have been fantastic for us.

Bhumiyama has the better pool and beach, while the hotel next door has the better bar. Its beach access is worse, though, with about 30 meters of rocks making it hard to get into the sea. At Bhumiyama the rooms are spacious and clean, and the design and pool are amazing. They could be more modern, but at this price I wasn't expecting a 60-inch TV. The staff were great, and the whole stay was fantastic value.
