The river-side Baan Rim Nam, which has the same owner and is being renovated right now, sounds like another good option. At this stay, Ian and the staff made things easy and comfortable, from keeping the place clean to sorting out transport to and from Koh Chang, finding us a decent scooter, and sharing useful island updates and tips. The setting itself is wonderfully quiet, with plenty of interesting birds to see and hear, and the evening view is hard to beat. Bring a little fishing rod if you want to try your luck against the local fisherman next door. We can’t imagine finding a better place to stay on Koh Chang.

Klong Prao felt like the best mix on Koh Chang: peaceful, with lovely beaches and restaurants, but still surrounded by everyday Thai life. We had the beach on both sides of the river almost to ourselves in October, and the canoe with kayak paddles was both a blast and genuinely useful. We stayed seven nights at Baan Moon and kept feeling lucky to be there, morning through night. Ian was incredibly helpful, arranging private rides between our Bangkok hotels and the island, as well as two scooters for our time on Ko Chang. Baan Moon deserves a sixth star.

We had such a varied and lovely holiday here with our two little children in April 2017. The house had everything we needed, and the host was always easy to reach and very helpful. There are three restaurants close by, though for more nightlife you’ll need a scooter, a car, or a taxi. The beach is great and quick to reach in the provided canoe. Just keep an eye out for sand fleas, which do occur here. In the evenings, the house has a beautiful sunset view. We’d love to come back.
