Pingpong's House Koh Chang

Good value for the price.

We stayed in this bungalow for three weeks two years ago, then came back for a couple of weeks three years ago. I’m giving it five stars. The sea and shops, bars and restaurants are nearby, and the price is ridiculously low. We booked with the owners at the front desk, negotiated a discount, got a good deal on the bike, and the owner recommended a great masseuse. The bungalow is upstairs, so it feels almost like living in the jungle. Monkeys come around, but that’s Thailand, and it’s part of the appeal. The owner is super friendly. Someone said there’s no refrigerator, but there’s one downstairs at reception that you can use anytime. Our linens were changed regularly. There’s no AC, only a fan. If you want something exotic at a reasonable price and aren’t picky, this place is perfect. People used to more comforts might want another option. If I find myself on Koh Chang again, I’ll stay here.

The cabins are great, though they’re not new, and the location is wonderful. We managed to get a couple even in the July off-season, when the hotel was closed. They let us cook right beside the cabin and supplied utensils. If you’re staying a week or longer, you can confidently ask for a discount. The monkeys weren’t a problem. If I return to the island, I’ll stay here overnight.

My bungalow was the highest and last one on the hill. The one above it had been abandoned, and mine felt half abandoned too. There was sawdust on the shelf beside the mirror. If the bed linen had been changed, it must have been several months earlier, during the previous guest’s visit.
