The beach is the main draw for me: Ao Noi is beautiful, with clear water, white sand, palms around the bay, volcanic rocks, sunsets, and a bridge over the water. I've visited many Thai islands over the past 15 years, and this is one of the loveliest beaches I've seen. It doesn't get crowded or feel like a mass-tourism spot. I first came to Ao Noi Resort in 2018, and they've made a lot of improvements since then. This is a family-run local Thai resort, not a five-star place with modern luxury rooms, cocktail bars, or high-end service. The rooms are a basic three-star standard, and you may see geckos or hear jungle sounds, so it suits nature lovers best. Most rooms have been renovated over the last two seasons and are kept neat. They have new A/C units, a fridge, hairdryer, hot water, a king-size bed, and balconies, with some just a few steps from the beach and a sea view. Rooms are cleaned daily, with free water and instant coffee topped up each day. Staff speak basic but sufficient English. The small beach bar has cold beer, fresh coconut, fruit shakes, fruit, ice cream, and other drinks. You can also get a beach massage for $15 an hour, with the sound of the waves nearby. Food and drinks are affordable compared with other places on Koh Kood: seafood rice is around $4, a 0.5l beer is $2.5, and soft drinks are under $1. Room prices stay flat all year. A simple sea-view cottage in Zone B starts at $68 per night for two, breakfast included. Villa bungalows and Sea View Cottages are a little more, at $87, and often sell out a year ahead, though plenty of other rooms can still be found in season, sometimes 3-4 months ahead. Guests can use kayaks and new SUP boards for free, rent a scooter or motorbike at reception, and arrange snorkeling tours, scub dives, or fishing through other shops. The resort is outside Booking, Agoda, and Airbnb, and has updated its official website for foreign guests to request rooms. People should keep in mind that service can be slow. The staff are local island people doing their best, and English isn't their first language. The resort also has a clear rule against bringing in outside food or drinks, and can refuse entry to the property. The beach itself is public and open to everyone, but the land behind it is private. Staff clean the beach daily, and the resort pays for electricity and water, so visitors shouldn't bring their own food or even drinking water, use the toilets and showers, and leave rubbish behind. I've seen many people do that. Sunbeds and umbrellas are for resort guests, though the beach is long enough for everyone to enjoy shade from the palm trees. The resort can close its entrance if people don't respect the private property. I wrote this in November 2025, and I'll be back in December and January to enjoy one of the last Thai paradise beaches.

The room made the stay especially hard to justify at 4000THB a night. The aircon dripped constantly, so we kept towels underneath to mop it up, and when it was on it pushed a sewage smell through the room. Opening the door helped with the smell, but meant dealing with the dripping and a hot room. The beds were very firm, as they often are in Thailand, but my husband couldn't sleep on his side and ended up with sore hips. The balcony chairs were cheap and uncomfortable. Housekeeping only folded back the bed cover and left fresh towels. The sheets weren't changed and surfaces weren't cleaned, and once the towels smelled strongly of cat pee. We stayed five days and found the staff rude, dismissive, and unfriendly throughout. The resort also felt unwelcoming from the start, run down, and poorly kept in the gardens. I've stayed in many places in Thailand, and this was the most disappointing. The booking was non-refundable and paid upfront. We were told the bungalows we'd tried to reserve were all taken, while the best and most expensive ones were available, so we decided to treat ourselves for the last five nights. We only saw one other couple during our stay and never saw anyone in the other bungalows we'd wanted. It felt like a rip-off, especially when there are many better places on the island at a quarter of the price. For the cost and the staff's attitude, I can't recommend it and won't return. You can try visiting the beach, if they let you without trying to charge you, but I'd stay elsewhere.

For official availability, guests should send a booking request through the Ao Noi Resort website and contact the resort directly. Ao Noi Resort is a small local Thai family business and doesn't sell rooms through Agoda, Booking, or Airbnb. Listings on Airbnb are from third-party resellers, not official listings, and may cost more. About the negative review concerning a room booking: the guest came to ask staff about availability but did not make a confirmed reservation. There was no deposit or payment, and no official confirmation, document, or receipt was issued. The resort can't hold rooms in high season without confirmed payment. Reservations are secured only when payment is confirmed, which is standard practice for hotels and resorts.

The beach is beautiful, and the resort itself has potential, but I wouldn't recommend staying here because of the management. We came to reception ahead of time to make a preliminary booking and specifically asked whether we needed to pay then. The manager said clearly that no payment was needed and that we could pay at check-in. When we returned to check in, we were told there were no rooms left because the resort was fully booked, so we had nowhere to stay. If staff confirm a booking after a clear conversation, they should honor it. That was unacceptable, and I don't recommend this place.
