Lanta Sport Resort

We spent a week here and thought it was a good hotel for the relatively low price. I’d stay again if I return to Koh Lanta. The evenings and nights were quiet, which was a big plus. The place is set back far enough from the road that the noise doesn’t carry, but it’s still only a few minutes’ walk down to the main road, where there are lots of restaurants. We had a two-bedroom apartment on the third floor, with a pretty good view from the balcony. Facing south, it looked over the ocean on the right and the forest on the left. We had some really lovely sunset evenings out there. Staff weren’t around during regular daytime hours; we only met the cleaning ladies, but the hotel managers were always reachable by phone.

We stayed five nights in a room for three and really liked it. Our room was on the third floor, with a balcony facing the street, but it was very calm. The reception lady was lovely, and the pool was refreshing. We also took the chance to use the gym for free. It was a bit far away but walkable, though driving is better.

Pu was genuinely kind when she greeted us and showed us the room, which was the one bright spot. The road to the property already made us uneasy, and the place looked nothing like its online photos. The resort felt neglected and outdated, almost abandoned. Our room was old and smelled bad, and the glass doors had large gaps that made us worry about mosquitoes and cockroaches getting in at night. We started searching for somewhere else as soon as we arrived and left within an hour. Avoid it, and don't trust the Airbnb reviews.

Kasmina was the only person who seemed to do her job, and I'm grateful to her. The rest was a scandal. Housekeeping was unreliable: I had to go to reception three times for toilet paper and buy it twice myself, then ask again to have the shampoo refilled. They only clean when you're out, so staying in the room meant no service. During our last few days there was no cleaning at all, perhaps because we were leaving, though that's no excuse. The bins overflowed and cockroaches showed up. When I asked for the trash to be taken out, the cleaner ignored me and left. Other guests warned us that cleaners stole money from rooms. A few days later, my bank account was hacked and someone used my card details. My card had been in the room. I have no proof it was connected, but this had never happened to me before. The hotel is poorly maintained too: a piece of concrete fell from the balcony above ours, luckily when we weren't underneath it. The pool wasn't always clean because the filtration wasn't continuous, and for the last two days it was half full, which could be dangerous if you jumped in without noticing. The Muay Thai gym next door was very poor. The trainers didn't know how to hold pads and didn't seem professional, so it's not a place to improve your skills. Very disappointing. We'll never return.
