Plub Pla Koh Mak Retreat

The pool has a fantastic view over the sea, and the whole place is clean and tucked away in a beautiful spot. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and breakfast was a really good buffet. My only suggestion is to add more pillows or mattresses on the porches outside the bungalows, which would make them more comfortable.

The rooms are laid out well, and it’s extremely quiet here. I especially liked the outdoor pool, with its shiny floors around the deck. The house has lovely wood details, and the beach looks beautiful at high tide, though that depends on the tide and moon cycle.

I loved this place. It’s on Koh Mak, and while there aren’t parties or outdoor activities here, that suited me. The landscaping is well designed, the beach is private, and cleaning is excellent. The price was reasonable too. If you’re looking for an island not too far from Bangkok, I’d recommend it.

The breakfast was disgusting, and the toaster seemed risky enough that you’d want a fire extinguisher close by. They make a point of saying you can order only one item, though I can’t imagine wanting more. The pool also needs maintenance, and with just eight chairs, getting a seat is a toss-up. The beach is all rocks, so swimming isn’t really possible, and there’s nothing to do at the hotel or nearby. It’s a long way from town. The cleaning staff were quite nice, but the front desk guy acted as if being there was a punishment. He barely spoke or understood English and didn’t try, and when I tried to talk with him, he was usually busy on his cellphone as if that mattered more than guests. Plub Pla is one of the worst hotels I’ve stayed in. The list could go on, but simply, don’t stay here.
