Sea Shell Hut

There's a construction site somewhere nearby, so it gets noisy, but that's not the hotel's fault. For 1,400 baht for two nights, you're right in the center with a clean private room and your own bathroom. It's not fancy, and the walls could use paint, but the price is close to what you'd pay for a dorm. I don't understand all the bad reviews.

For sleeping and little else, it's pretty fine, though why stay in a hotel when you could explore the island? The room was clean, the location was good, and the staff were personal and helpful. They let us leave our bags before check-in and after checkout, and it was quiet. The bathroom wasn't great, and the room was small with no wardrobe.

Although it's in the center and close to the market, the room was super quiet. It looked like the pictures, basic but with the essentials, and extremely clean. For the price, I think it's a good deal, especially if you're backpacking.

What made Sea Shell Hut on Koh Phi Phi Don feel like more than a hotel was the owners. I've never met anyone as warm and lovely as our host. When our daughter needed to be admitted to the local hospital, she came to check on us in under five minutes. Her husband took us on a private Longtail trip at a very good rate. He was helpful and patient, and made the most of our day. We couldn't have asked for more from either of them. We were a family of three staying for two nights, and paid 2000 THB for two rooms, a steal for such a central spot. The hotel itself is worn out, very basic, and things are starting to fall apart. I wouldn't rent it for two or three weeks, but it worked perfectly for a few nights exploring the island. We had what we needed: the AC and WiFi worked well, everything was spotlessly clean, including the towels and bedding, and we slept well. Even with everything going on around us, it was super quiet. If we return to Phi Phi Don, we'd stay nowhere else. We'll miss the place and the people who made us feel so welcome.
