Moroc Home Resort Koh Sichang

This place is a great find for adventurers 🤪 and photographers. People say it’s haunted, but I think the financial crisis is what ruined the hotel. I noticed what looked like makeshift apartments on the ground floor, so people may still come by to spend the night. 😉 The abandoned building feels somewhere between horror and fantasy, like Lord of the Rings. I even made a video about it. 😜

Our New Year’s trip ended on December 29-30, 2018, with a booking mess and a room that was nothing like I’d expected. I’d booked and paid by credit card for a Superior room at “Moroc Home” through website A. After exploring the island, I stopped for food, then went to check in, shower, and eat. At about 7 PM, I told the staff my reservation was under Chasap. They said a conflict with website A meant my paid room wasn’t available, and offered to put us in another hotel they’d already booked, which they said also had a beautiful view. I was furious. I’d stopped by that afternoon, spoken with them, and they had my number. Why hadn’t they told me earlier? I was hungry and let them hear about it. They said I wasn’t happy, and that the last room had just checked in. I thought, how could they give that room to someone else? The staff member said they’d go ask the previous customer to change rooms and asked me to wait. I agreed, still upset. They came back saying we could have a “suite” on the top floor because the other customer had agreed to switch. I tried to tell myself that even though I’d booked one room type and got another, at least it might be an upgrade and I could still enjoy the stay. Instead, the room was old and covered in cobwebs. If you don’t like insects, geckos, or centipedes, it’s not for you. The floor looked as if it had never been cleaned, so I wore slippers the whole time. There was no TV remote; I asked for one, but nobody brought it, so I had to use the buttons on the back of the TV. The bathroom was outside on the rear balcony, reached through a hallway with dim orange lights, and there was no door. Maybe they thought couples would enjoy showering together, and yes, you could do that. But it was very cold when I was there, so I had to shower in the cold. Very romantic! I don’t even want to imagine how it would be in rainy season, or how the previous couple managed to use the toilet in the rain. That evening I went downstairs to have a beer with the housekeeper, hoping to get tipsy enough to sleep. The housekeeper was delighted and even drove me on a motorbike to buy more beer. Then I went to get a glass from the counter and found it filthy, with cockroach droppings on it. Was this some kind of blackout scene, or had the previous couple checked out after seeing the room like this? That’s all. I’m tired. The lesson for me: don’t believe everything you see, because photos can be edited and manipulated.

The building is beautiful, which makes it a shame that the grounds need more cleaning. I wish the place were just a little cleaner overall.
