The Simple Koh Yao Noi

The reception area was pleasant, and the staff were helpful. In the room there was a TV, a desk, a wide bed, a fridge and a small table for opening luggage. I personally find TVs unnecessary in hotels, and the fridge was so noisy at night that we had to switch it off. There was no cupboard or shelving. That was fine for our one-night stay, since we lived out of our luggage, but it would probably be inconvenient for longer visits. In my view, open shelves or a cupboard would make more sense than a desk and TV. We chose The Simple because it was a budget hotel at a good price, and arrived with modest expectations, but the room fell short in several ways. There were cobwebs, especially in the upper corners, black deposits in the concrete sink, and light stains on the bedsheets, as if washing hadn’t removed them completely. The worst part was the strong sewage smell from the toilet. We’ve noticed this in other hotels, but never to this extent. The island has several central areas, and The Simple is in the first one you reach from Manoh Pier. It’s central enough to be convenient, but there are no beaches nearby. We didn’t feel comfortable riding a scooter, so we got around by bicycle. It took about 15 minutes to reach the nearest beach, Pasai Beach. Personally, I’d suggest staying on the west side of the island, where most of the beaches are.

A cosy, minimalist place close to the village centre, with lovely staff, a little bar and a workspace. There’s scooter parking too. It does what it says on the tin, in the best way. Highly recommend!

We spent three nights with Jackie and the staff and couldn’t have been happier. The accommodation is simple and elegant, and you can tell a lot of thought, time and effort went into everything. We rented scooters and booked a private boat tour through the hotel, and it all worked out perfectly. I’d definitely recommend staying here if you’re visiting Koh Yao Noi.

The Simple is a peaceful, clean, adorable little hotel on a quiet, friendly island, with lots of friendly kitties around. The host, Jackie, was the best part. She was incredibly helpful, seemed to know everyone on the island, and helped us arrange taxis and activities throughout our week there. The hotel isn’t on the beach, but it’s not far away. You can rent scooters for 300 baht/day, and bicycles are provided. Do yourself a favor and stay here!
