Tranquil Bungalows by Beck's

The view from my beachfront cabin was unreal. It was also nice not having to share a wall with anyone, which made things quieter and gave me more privacy. I had loads of space in the room and a huge fridge with a freezer, handy for making ice for rum and Cokes while watching the sunset from my balcony hammock. I did check out other beaches, but honestly, I had more fun just staying at the resort. I spent most of my two weeks on the balcony, listening to audiobooks in the hammock, swimming, sunbathing, and practising with my double staff in the grass. The birds tapped on my window around 9 to wake me up like a Disney princess. The AC helped when I started feeling overheated, and they cleaned the room and changed the towels every other day. The cabin interior could use a renovation, but that might mean the prices wouldn’t be nearly so reasonable.

We booked the cheapest fan room, and the fans helped us get through the heat. The staff were incredible and helped with every problem we ran into. The place feels a little magical, with the ocean so close to the lovely pool. The sunsets on this side of the island are beautiful, and there are lots of spots near Beck's resort to watch them.

I ended up extending my stay and am trying to get a deal to come back for a month later in the year. The place is very chilled out, the grounds are well kept, and the pool is clean. On the right day it’s a great place to watch the sunset. Staff are friendly, and there’s a restaurant serving local food and some Western dishes. I think it opens six days a week and closes Mondays. There’s also a funny caged bird called chuck d who whistles, laughs, imitates a smoker’s cough, and says things like “lady boy,” “pretty boy,” and “chuggie chuggie chuggie, to be to be to be.” Wish I had the money to stay longer. It’s perfect for the ptsd.

We stayed at Back’s Resort from January 10 to January 11. When we got into the room at about 2:30 AM, we found bed bugs, ants, and dirty sheets, and started itching straight away. There was no one at reception. Staff were at the bar drinking beer, so we explained what we’d found. They didn’t seem surprised, but said they couldn’t help: no room change, clean sheets, towels, or blankets. They told us to wait until morning for a refund. With nowhere safe to sleep, we dragged a wooden sunbed into the room, put our wet shower towels on it, and covered ourselves with a sarong for the night. In the morning, they did all they could to avoid refunding us. After we insisted and got upset, one of them finally said, “Okay, okay, take the money and leave.” We don’t recommend this hotel. The rooms aren’t clean and there are bed bugs. It may look nice outside, but inside it’s disappointing and not suitable for guests.
