Malibu Samed Resort is in a gorgeous spot, more or less right on the beach at small, quaint Wong Duean Bay. There are several beach restaurants, and the atmosphere is lovely and chilled, without the drinking or cannabis culture. We got a warm welcome, and the staff were great and happy to help with our luggage. We know island life in Thailand well and understand that some things don’t work as smoothly. Our room was rustic and small, about 16 m², with two single beds and some hanging and storage space. It had a fridge, tea and coffee facilities, a safety deposit box, and a flat screen TV. The bed and pillow were comfortable but not sumptuous, and the towels were typical island quality. The shower was frustrating. Water is obviously limited on the island, and getting a hot shower was challenging. Having a decent supply of water in the morning or evening was hit and miss, more often miss, and it’s frustrating when you can’t get a proper shower. That’s one reason we move around frequently. Breakfast wasn’t great quality, though there were various choices, including cereal, hot Western and Thai food, toast, and tea and coffee. The pool area was barely used while we were there, so it made for a quiet break from the beach. It’s a good low-budget way to experience island life, though at £60 a night in January 2026, it wasn’t that low-budget.

The price worked for our family of four, and the resort had a room that fit us. I treated the stay as a little roughing it to enjoy time in paradise. The beach was nice and rock-free, and the playground was a real plus for the kids. There are plenty of other resorts and restaurants nearby to choose from. Breakfast had both Thai and Western options, and it was okay. The room was basic but okay too. The bathroom light was dim, while the bedroom had only harsh overhead lighting. The AC temperature display was very bright, and the towels had seen a lot of use.

We booked directly with the hotel and got a better deal than using a booking app. The food was amazing, and the staff were incredible. Our bungalow was a good size and clean, with what looked like a new bathroom. The beach was quiet and nice, with plenty of chairs so there was no rush to grab one, plus trees for shade. Malibu is a good spot right on the beach. Thanks again for making our stay so good.

The beach setup could use some attention. I understand the tide comes right in and makes it difficult, but the sandbags everywhere look messy. We also tried eating in the restaurant area twice, but nobody came to take our order, so we left and ate elsewhere. We stayed five nights, and the staff were friendly. The room was nice, and the cleaners did a brilliant job of getting rid of the sand every day. The pool was clean, the children liked the small park, and breakfast changed daily with something nice for everyone. The resort is a bit out of the way. You can eat on the beach, or pay for a taxi, since the walk to more shops like seven eleven and to restaurants is too far. There are no cash machines, so bring cash onto the island.

The bar and restaurant are right on the beach, while the rooms and pool sit farther back among lots of greenery. The staff are very polite, though only a few understand English. A more comfortable mattress, better lighting in the room and bathroom, and improved shower pressure and drainage are the three things I'd like them to look at.
