White Sand Samui Resort

The beach is wide, clean and quiet, and the hotel is a long way from central Lamai. Pool access rooms have a private pool area. Housekeeping was good, and they left fresh water bottles by the door every day, even when we had the DND sign up. Breakfast had a broad selection of food and drinks, including Thai dishes, cheese, salami, ham, chicken, coffee from machines, and fruit like watermelon, pineapple, passion fruit and papaya. It starts at 8 a.m., which is too late for me. The facilities are old and need renovation. I was surprised there was no hygiene shower in the toilet. The safe is too small for a laptop over 13.3 inches, and bar drinks are overpriced: 170 THB for a coconut when one costs 60 THB five minutes down the beach. The biggest problem was the internet. The connection kept dropping because of the main router, not poor coverage. You could watch YouTube, but working was impossible. I spoke with the marketing manager, who sent a technician, but they didn’t understand that another repeater wouldn’t fix it. Cellular coverage was low too, so anyone needing to work, join Zoom meetings or connect to a corporate VPN should use a SIM card and find a spot with a good signal.

The resort is at a quiet end of Lamai, which would suit someone looking for peace. It’s more than a 20-minute walk to the centre, where the shops and markets are. The airport transfer went smoothly, and the hotel is right on Lamai beach. We came to Koh Samui for the first time and hoped a resort stay would be a good start to our trip. White Sand Samui Resort fell well short for us. We can’t see how it qualifies as four stars; it felt like a two-star place with a pool. Service was the biggest disappointment. Staff seemed to lack basic customer service, there didn’t appear to be a manager on site, and the front desk couldn’t deal with things. The rooms looked worn and due for renovation. There weren’t enough seats by the pool or beach, and guests left towels on loungers to reserve them, then often didn’t use them. We spent several stretches waiting in the sun for the loungers to become available, even once when we were the only two people in the pool and every lounger still had someone else’s towel on it. We skipped the restaurant because the bar staff were slow and unengaging, and the menu didn’t appeal to us, so we ate elsewhere. After dinner around 9 p.m., we asked the front desk if we could buy drinks and take them to our room. They said everyone had gone home. There were two people at the desk, so we couldn’t understand why they couldn’t get two beers from the fridge and charge them to our room. I’ve never stayed anywhere that refused a sale. The hotel shows signs of age and neglect. We’re returning to Koh Samui in May 2026 and have booked somewhere else. I wouldn’t recommend this resort.

The beachside location, nice pool and welcoming staff were all things we liked. I took off a star because people reserve the sunbeds with towels. By 8 a.m. they were all claimed, and it was annoying to see empty loungers we couldn’t use.

DON’T BOOK HERE! I stayed three weeks ago and left after one night instead of the five I’d booked. The rooms and property are poorly maintained, and you can hear everything from the next room. Breakfast was poor too. They charge way too much for a place like this, which definitely isn’t four-star. Do yourself a favor and book somewhere else.
