Ecotao lodge

The infinity pool was breathtaking, and the rooms were immaculate. It felt like a little piece of paradise, easily the best place we stayed during our three-week Thailand trip. The food was lovely, with lots of choice at breakfast and dinner, and the staff were all so friendly. Special thanks to Nat, who was super knowledgeable and welcoming. We loved our time at Eco Tao and would absolutely stay again if we return to Koh Tao. It’s a peaceful, beautiful place, though you’ll need a scooter to get around the island. Taxis can get expensive, and there aren’t many on the island. Thanks to everyone at Eco Tao for making our stay so special and memorable. Megan & Steve

The pool was a real highlight, just sitting there with the jungle spread out below us was so relaxing. We loved the views from our traditional wooden room too, and the setting at Ecotao Lodge is beautiful. The food was very good, and happy hour had great prices. Everyone on staff was friendly and helpful, including with scooter rentals and taxis. The one drawback was the weak air conditioning, which left the room pretty warm at night. Still, we had a fantastic stay and would recommend it for a peaceful getaway.

Paula was amazing, and every other staff member seemed to do their best to make the stay memorable. The cocktails were incredible, and the panang curry was the best we had in Thailand. The view is insane too. Koh Tao was packed for high season, but none of that bustle carried over to Ecotao. You do need a motorbike, and the place is designed for adults, with no kids. I'd give it 10 stars if I could. Book it and enjoy, I'm jealous of anyone who still has this trip ahead.

The housekeeping was outstanding, and I liked the authentic feel of this boutique hotel, with fewer rooms than a resort. The elevated bungalows and sea views make for an appealing concept, though at peak season the price felt hard to justify. The room is austere and lets the view take over, so don't expect resort finishes or cozy lighting. Maintenance needs attention: some outlets didn't work right, the shower temperature was difficult to control, the furniture felt old or low quality, and mosquito control was insufficient. Breakfast was thoughtfully planned, though I'd have liked more fruit options such as avocado and mango. We were fine with needing a scooter to get around. I left with mixed feelings about the finish, upkeep, and value.
