Koh Tao Hillside Resort

The staff were so kind and helpful throughout our seven-night stay. They carried our luggage down the hillside and helped book boat trips. If I could, I'd give them 10 stars! The bungalow was new, with an amazing view. It was on the minimalistic side, without an extra table or chairs inside or a TV, but that didn't bother me. The resort offers a free shuttle into town three times a day. Walking is possible, but the road has extremely steep parts. We never tried walking and always took the shuttle. The room was spotless and beautiful, with a sea view. The service was excellent, and nothing felt like a problem. We even got a free transfer to the pier with full help: staff secured and handled our luggage, walked us to check-in, and gave me a small flower for my hair. Such a sweet touch. We arrived in high season without a booking, so our choices were limited. Earlier in the week we'd overpaid for places that gave us almost no service. Ko Tao Hillside Resort was the complete opposite. It's more secluded, and the access road is a challenge, with a very steep hill. Even so, the staff were incredibly careful and supportive, and genuinely looked out for guests' comfort and safety. Highly recommended! We'll definitely be back. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We were cautious about staying here because of older reviews about the rooms, but it turned out to be the perfect place. Our room had clearly been updated very recently and done well. The air conditioning was strong, there was lots of natural light with curtains to block it out, and we had a lovely porch for watching the sunset. The oceanfront views were stunning. The resort really is steep. With wheeled suitcases, or if you struggle with hills or stairs, it may not be a good fit. We didn't mind it as much as we expected. It's a three-minute drive outside downtown's chaos, or a 20-minute walk. That walk was more pleasant and less hilly than we'd thought. There's also a free shuttle to and from town and the pier three times a day. The staff were friendly, and the rooms clean, spacious and new. The views were excellent. We didn't use the pool or restaurant, so can't comment on those, but the hotel exceeded our expectations. We'd absolutely stay again!

The biggest drawback is the very steep entrance. Even walking feels like climbing a hill, and riding or being a passenger on a motorbike can be challenging. Definitely consider this if you're not comfortable with steep roads. I chose Hill Side Resort for the location and value, and it didn't disappoint. It has direct beach access, so you can go snorkeling right away. I stayed one night, and although I'd seen reviews saying the rooms were old and the air conditioner wasn't cold, my experience as of December 2025 was very different. My room was clean and well maintained, and the air conditioner was perfectly cold, making the stay comfortable. For its location, price, cleanliness and beach access, it's a worthwhile choice. If you don't mind the steep hill, I'd recommend it.
