Pankabay Resort has a wonderfully laid-back feel, and the hosts were very friendly. We enjoyed eating around the island too, but the resort’s restaurant was great, especially the regular fresh fish and chicken kebab BBQ. We stayed in an upper-row bungalow and loved how thoughtfully the space was set up, with lots of storage and a comfortable bed. The bungalows are the only accommodation on Panka Yai beach at the moment, and they all have a lovely sea view when the tide is in. The shore is covered in tiny shells and coral, a fun change from the white-sand beach on the island’s east side, about a 20-minute walk over a decent hill. It was very hot even in February, supposedly one of Thailand’s cooler months. The fan struggled to cool the room, especially at night, though sleeping with the windows open and without the bed cover helped. We were initially unsure about the windows and bathroom window having no mesh, but we didn’t get any mosquitoes inside and hardly saw any around the resort. I imagine the coastal setting helps, and the hosts would probably add mesh if mosquitoes became more common. Koh Bulon feels special and still relatively untouched compared with other islands. I hope it stays that way. Thanks for making it possible to visit on a more affordable budget. We’d love to come back.

The hosts and staff made us feel so welcome, and they can help arrange activities and onward travel tickets. Our room looked out over the bay, with a private verandah and seating where we could relax after snorkeling, swimming, or fishing. It was comfortable and felt private. At Pankabay Resort, the views are stunning at any hour. Each evening we watched the sunset from the restaurant while having delicious freshly prepared food or a barbecue. It really did feel like paradise, and the resort is a beautiful place to slow down and unwind. I truly felt as if I’d landed in heaven when I arrived on Koh Bulone. I highly recommend staying here for something special, and I’ll be back next year.

It was so peaceful at Pankabay, like everything had finally slowed down and we were in paradise. The beds were comfortable, with fans and mosquito nets, and everything was clean. Hornbills flying around made the place feel even calmer. We had fresh fish at dinner, and I’m still thinking about it. The restaurant is a great place to catch the sunset.

Juergen and his wife, An, really went out of their way to make us feel like family. Pankabay is a beautiful, peaceful place on Koh Bulon, and I felt at ease as soon as I arrived. I stayed in both the smaller downstairs bungalow and the larger upstairs room. The downstairs one was my favorite, with the ocean right at eye level. Both rooms were tidy, clean, and suited what I needed for island life. The food was very good, though I also tried several other restaurants on the island. Thanks for a lovely stay.

The owners were welcoming from the start through the day we left, and they helped us with transport to the other side of the island. Communication before, during, and after arrival was excellent. The food was good, and the mango sticky rice was both elegant and delicious. The place isn’t new, but it was extremely clean. Lots of small details were thought through: hooks on the bathroom door, shelves by the sink and in the bedroom, a towel rack, good hangers, a closet, desks, and shelving. The bed’s headboard also had shelves. Mattresses and pillows were comfortable, which I haven’t often found in Thailand. The mosquito net was in great condition and had no unpleasant smell. There were comfortable chairs and a table on the deck, plus a rope for drying wet clothes and towels. The lighting was good in both the bathroom and the walking paths. Our main frustration was the shower pressure. It gets worse the higher up and farther from the kitchen you are, because of where the rainwater collection system is. As two women with long hair, we couldn’t wash our hair in the shower. I eventually filled the sink with water and washed it there.
