Set in a pretty garden just off a peaceful road, this family-run guest house in Mae San has everything you need, including hot water, WiFi, drinking water and toiletries. Each cabin shares a kettle and coffee, handy for an early start. The owners even gave me a lift to the songtaew stop for Mae Salong. I’d happily recommend it.

Room six had an amazing sunset, and there was a decent-looking mountain bike available for free, though I chose to walk instead. The room itself was dusty and seemed overdue for a clean, including the furniture and balcony floor with bird droppings. The owner agreed to clean it again after I checked in. The furniture is a mismatched set of old, well-used pieces, not vintage. It’s unusual to find a guesthouse room this unclean in Thailand. I paid ฿400. The place could be much better if the owner took a real interest in running it.

The hostess was so helpful and friendly. She emailed us detailed tips about nearby attractions, sorted out a scooter rental, and let us keep our bags in the room after checkout until we could collect them at 16:00. We had a mountain view, and the room was spacious, clean and affordable, with a comfortable bed. Great place to stay, and I’d highly recommend the guesthouse.
