Baanmaipai Tiamta Maekampong

I came here to unwind, and sitting on the balcony through the afternoon and evening, watching the sunset while working on my laptop, was a big part of that. The hosts were lovely and had been in touch before I arrived. Coming in late was no problem, and they helped arrange a taxi back to Chiang Mai. There is a small shop nearby for drinks and essentials, while the main village is a short walk away for other coffee or drinks. The location is up a hill rather than right in the village centre. It takes around ten minutes to walk, with a fairly steep stretch. That's normal for Mae Kampong and was fine for me, but expect some walking. Local rides are available for about 20 THB. The bamboo hut was full of character, and I liked hearing the water, birds, and insects around me. The bed was comfortable. One night felt a bit cold, but they brought an extra blanket right away; the other nights were warm enough with the fan on low. There is no soundproofing between rooms, though. It didn't bother me until the last night, when the neighbours' alarm went off at 4am and they slept through it, waking me. Light sleepers may struggle with that. If you enjoy natural sounds while you sleep, the setting can be lovely. The bathroom may also feel cramped if you're large-framed. It was fine for me. Breakfast was excellent each day, though there wasn't a choice of dishes. I had either pork or chicken-and-mushroom rice soup or porridge, with a fried egg on the side. It kept me going until early afternoon. The coffee and other drinks were basic, and the nearby village is an option if you want something different. I loved the charm and the people here, and for me the good points outweighed the drawbacks. I'd recommend it to most people after a relaxed, nature-focused stay who are comfortable with these trade-offs.

A lovely homestay, handy for lots of local sights. The hosts are friendly and always willing to help.

The owner is so kind and friendly, and the service is excellent for an affordable price. Breakfast rice porridge was delicious. It's also close to Mae Kampong village, so getting around is easy.

The hosts are really nice, and they served a good Thai breakfast. The place is just before the village, with quite a bit of traffic outside since our room was beside the road.
