Best matcha place in the world, and I've been to Japan.
Noknook J.
The matcha was the standout for me, really tasty and easy to enjoy even though I don't usually drink it. There's a good range of drinks, and I liked that guests can wear kimono or yukata, including men. The rooms are Japanese in style, with some things brought in from Japan, so it feels authentic. It's a newly opened cafe and accommodation tucked a little way down a side street. The house is huge, four floors, and shaped like a triangle like the one in Shirakawa-go, Japan.

A little matcha cafe up in the mountains with a Shirakawa ryokan feel. They also have rooms, food, and drinks, including ceremonial-grade matcha. The garden is lush, with pretty natural spots for photos, and yukata are available to rent for a full photoshoot. I'd definitely come back. If you're heading to Mae Kampong in the rainy-winter season, don't skip it.

There are several matcha styles to pick from, including ceremonial grade, clear, and latte. The flavor is lovely and smooth, and the staff are friendly and provide good service. The cafe itself is beautiful, with lots of places to take photos.

The shop has lots of matcha options, and I liked all the ones I tried. Drinks are reasonably priced, and sitting with matcha in Mae Kampong's atmosphere felt like a rare Chiang Mai experience. This is also the place Mae Tuk Little Monster visited. I was impressed by the lovely photos you can get inside and around the shop. If you have time, you can try a kimono, and the owner helps you put it on. It's quite hard to find a chance to wear one in Chiang Mai.
