Suansawan Resort Chiang Mai (SHA Extra Plus)

We especially liked ordering coffee around 2 p.m. and relaxing on the terrace in the January sunshine. The restaurant has plenty of food and drink options, and the staff are friendly without hovering, quietly getting everything done in the background. The separate bungalows sit among tall trees and give tired travelers plenty of room. We rested so well, and waking from a nap felt like being in a tropical forest. The owners clearly put a lot of love and care into the resort and its grounds. It was a lovely stay, and we'd be happy to return.

We haven't stayed at the resort, but we've eaten at the restaurant twice. Both meals were made to order and delicious. We've tried salads, soups, fish and chips, quesadillas, and the excellent coffees. The peaceful setting and all the plants are the best part, making it a beautiful, serene dining experience. The Villas look lovely too, and the grounds are stunning.

The garden is beautiful, the resort itself is nice, and the employees are very friendly. If your room is trouble-free, you'll probably be fine. Ours made this one of our worst experiences so far, despite nearly a year of travel and stays around the world. There was either a mouse or a fat dormouse in the ceiling, visible behind the ceiling light. It started moving around at about 11 p.m., scratching so loudly all night that sleeping was impossible. We tried to reach the owner around 11:30 p.m., but nobody was there and there were no contact details anywhere in the resort. Another guest helped us get through to him eventually. He said he couldn't do anything for us and then hung up. After we got virtually no sleep, the other owner yelled at and insulted us the next morning. They said it wasn't really a problem and that we had to check out and leave that day. The way they spoke to us was rude and disrespectful, and made us feel at fault just for reporting an issue with the room. We've never experienced anything like it. The animal and noise weren't the main problem for us. It was how the owners treated us. Absolutely shameful.

A quiet, cozy place where you can relax in the rainforest surroundings. The place is clean and good. I enjoyed a cool Chang Beer at the restaurant while listening to the birds. Tip: book a tour to Queen Sirikit botanical garden 🙏👍. Recommended!
