Queen Palace Hotel

The rooms are great, but the service has put me off returning. I’ve stayed here before, and I usually pay by cashless methods using my Thai bank accounts, so I rarely carry cash. On my first visit, the staff reluctantly accepted my ID card as the deposit. Transferring the deposit would also have been no problem, but they didn’t want to do that. This time, as a returning guest, I was sent to find an ATM so they could take the deposit in cash. The attitude was rude and very unprofessional, especially since using my ID as a deposit had worked perfectly before. The staff’s service mindset felt like zero. If I could give zero stars, I would. If I owned the hotel, I’d seriously consider changing the staff. Future guests should know: it’s a nice hotel, but the staff suck. That’s the simplest way to describe my experience.

The pool water was very green and didn’t look clean, perhaps because it was rainy season. I hope they fix it in summer. Other than that, the room and view were pretty good, and 400 baht for a two-bed room was affordable. I stayed three days but slept through breakfast each time :3 It’s in the middle of the city, so taxis to different places don’t cost much. There aren’t many shops or restaurants right around it, but it’s still a good, budget-friendly place that I’d recommend.

The location, clean swimming pool, and price were the good parts. The hotel has spacious grounds and nice buildings, so I expected more on my first stay. I’ve been in plenty of hotels in Thailand and abroad, and for me good service comes first, then facilities and location. Here, the service was almost nonexistent. Several things in the room didn’t work: the entrance door was broken, the terrace door lock was broken, there was no toilet ventilation, no service phone, no hot water pot, and literally no room service. This has nothing to do with pre- or post-COVID. I thought I’d found our favorite place in Mae Sot when I booked, but I was wrong. My friends and I won’t stay again.

Good air conditioning and a nice swimming pool. Breakfast was so-so, though the coffee was surprisingly good. For the price, it’s a reasonable hotel, but Google can make it hard to find. Expect plastic covering the headboard. It’s a funny Thai habit, making things look new even when they’re 10 years old, and you’ll see it on chairs, cars, bikes and all sorts of things. There’s no ice at the hotel, but alcoholic and cold drinks are in the fridge at reception.
