Hop Inn Mukdahan (SHA Extra Plus)

Hop Inn feels very standard, like a hotel Ryan Air might own. Still, it was clean and well maintained. There are laminated little cards everywhere explaining what to do and what not to do. The staff are friendly, though if you’re a “farang,” expect to be asked for your passport even if you aren’t the person who booked or paid for the room.

The staff generally do their assigned jobs well, but I noticed a couple of moments where guests could have used more attention. An older Thai woman struggled with her bag when a minibus arrived, while a staff member nearby kept cleaning instead of helping. Staff should report maintenance problems they see too, instead of assuming someone else will deal with them. Those small gestures can make guests feel valued. Hop Inn has a consistently good standard across Thailand, but this may be one of the oldest I’ve stayed in, and wear is showing: peeling paint, chipped and cracked bathroom tiles, and scratched hallways.

I picked this inexpensive, clean place because it’s about a five-minute walk from the bus station, where I needed to catch an early bus. For that, it worked well. The build quality seems fairly low, and the room is barely bigger than the bed. There are no English TV channels, and the front desk speaks some English.

The rooms are small but have what you need, and the beds are really soft and cozy. WiFi is strong, and they put out free coffee in the morning. Lobby staff were responsive and helped us a lot with our motorbike. Recommend!
